SOLDERED PENDENT

This was my first attempt at soldering its a bit dodge but okish i need more practice them soldering irons are hot you know and very scary LOL.

I used a large oval glass pebble you know the kind that you can buy to put in vases, I glued my own art work to the back using glossy assents, wrapped copper tape around the edge and then added the solder, when done i added some felt to the back.

I kinda like the look of it except for the soldering i found it hard to get it smoothed out by the time I got half way round i ran out of solder so had to start from where i left off and that's where it goes wrong. so if any of you have any HINTS and TIPS about soldering i would be really greatful for your help.

I used the Black and Decker craft tool which has soldering tips knife etc, and the solder goes on the tip of the tool i have just bought a new soldering iron and this is so different the solder beads and you have to get it to drop off before you can smooth it, oh and this ones way hot burnt myself twice and i only used it for a couple of minutes to try it LOL.

you want a flat edge tip not a round one, and make sure you ''tinn' the tool properly which helps in smoothing it out. Also are you using solder with silver or tin? Silver is the best for what you want and liquid silver flux is a must to make it spread out, couple of videos here might help you

I'd say it looks great! I'm getting closer to trying soldering, but haven't done it yet. Yep, check Youtube for a bunch of videos on soldering.

Thanks ladies have looked on youtube its easy watching the vidoes harder to do LOL, I guess its like most things practice makes perfect and you learn by your mistakes. so im pretty much sorted on that one HEHE.

Hi Crissy, the pendant is beautiful! I can't tell that there's anything lacking with the soldering, it's lovely! Polyvore is a website where you can make digital artwork. It started out to be for fashionistas to put together a "look", but lots of us use it for just making self-expressive art. It has definite limitations, but then that's why it's so easy to use!! Check it out: http://www.polyvore.com/

Crissi it's great for your first attempt. I agree with you - it takes a lot of practice. I followed the instructions on art-e-zine.co.uk and then watched a Stampington video that was extremely simple. If I do any more soldering, I'll do it their way!!

Hi, thanks for visiting & joining my blog, good to meet you. I think as said practice is what we need but this pendant looks great! Like the idea of putting your work behind the bead - i thought about that with resin but this seems easier (except for the tricky soldering, i'd make such a mess!)I love your mixed media caulk piece, too.

This is a lovely pendant, I love the colours showing through the pebble. Your soldering looks fine to me, can't give you any tips, I burn myself frequently while embossing, I couldn't be trusted with a soldering iron.

That's definitely something I've been wanting to learn, myself. I have a soldering iron. Your pendant came out gorgeous!! Love it.

Crissie, this is so gorgeous. I know nothing about soldering other than it is very hot and takes caution. Your results are gorgeous, though, and you can be proud to wear the pendant.
